AlternativeNess

Project Summary

The project was part of ‘In Town Without My Car’ which is promoted as part of European Mobility Week 17th – 21st September. Car Free Day 'AlternativeNess' was held in Inverness on Wednesday 19th September 2007. The event aim was to give people space to think about what our urban streets are really for.

History/Background

A temporary road closure is required to qualify and in Inverness, Castle Road was closed from 9am - 5pm on the 19th of September to allow for a number of different activities and events to be held in the space and to give an idea of how the space could be used everyday if it were not open to traffic.

A permanent scheme is also required and in Inverness a new initiative to provide free bicycles for hire at Rose Street Car Park will provide a shift towards more sustainable travel.
