About The Partnership

The greeninverness partnership was established in 2005 as a result of funding available from the Scottish Governments City Vision Fund. A key objective of the Inverness City Vision drawn up by the city partnership is to enhance and develop the environmental assets of the city through a purposeful investment programme addressing existing projects in the riverside areas of the city, Castle Motte and the Green Wedges’ identified in the revised Inverness Local Plan.

The aim within the first two years was to develop a City of Inverness Greenspace Strategy and Action Plan, setting out priorities in consultation with the stakeholders. This has recently been completed and will lead to a range of investment decisions and projects in and around the city that will seek to conserve and enhance sites that have identified landscape, amenity, recreation, access, environmental and heritage value.

The greeninverness partners that are currently represented on the Steering Group are;

  • Scottish Natural Heritage
  • British Waterways Scotland
  • Forestry Commission Scotland
  • NHS Highland
  • Greenspace Scotland
  • The Highland Council
  • Highlands and Islands Enterprise
It is hoped that representation from other stakeholder organisations will be invited to join this group in the future.

COMMUNITY TRUST INITIATIVE

The Highland Council and greeninverness intend to pursue a major initiative involving the establishment of a Community Trust to secure the Green Wedges in the public interest.  Further to discussions with partner agencies greeninverness partnership steering group will seek advice on the mechanism for securing community ownership and management of land, related sources of funding and the formation of a Trust.
